Sentences...

So how long were their sentences supposed to be? It's not like they murdered anyone so they shouldn't have life. I'd think the charge would be equal to attempted murder. And attempted murder is never a life sentence. Does it ever make that clear in the movie? I've seen the movie many times but I don't remember if they mentioned anything about that.

That's why this movie's so stupid. They shouldn't have had ANY sentences at all, just a stiff warning that they will be caught, and not to attempt it again. That'll soon dissuade them.

reply

Oh I think they should definitely have had attempted murder sentences because that's exactly what they were up to, attempted murder. But I don't know if I missed something or what. But it does seem like they're making it appear like they're in there for life.

It's been 20 years since I've seen this, but wasn't there some sort of mental rehabilitation as part of their sentences? I remember the prison guard pointing to his head and saying something like "in here, they're busy, busy, busy."

Why bother with rehabilitation if they are never to be released?

Although I do love this movie, it really is chock full of plot holes for sure.
