Not my favorite

We saw this in theaters for the Midnight Opening Event. It wasn't as good. I know they shot everything at the same time, but it felt rushed in a lot of parts and overly long in others. I especially didn't care for how long the ending was. This movie marked the end of my interest in seeing series.

Did you like this one as much, more, or less than the other two films?

Are you able to watch the whole trilogy in one sitting at home? I'm not.

reply

It’s my favorite of the trilogy. I own the extended editions, so all three together are over 11 hours. Never tried to watch them all in one sitting, but I bet I could.

I enjoyed it the first time -- like "Two Towers" and "Fellowship." And, like "Towers" and "Fellowship," with subsequent viewings, came to find it quite tedious.

While there's a great deal of spectacle in Jackson's adaptations I don't feel there's much depth.

This is something to be said. It was something ambitious for the time. It was beautifully crafted. I agree with the tediousness. Did you like Jackson's other works?

reply

I'm glad you like it. I may not be able to watch it, but it's good that some people do. Did you enjoy the Hobbit movies? I couldn't get into it.

My favorite part of the saga was Sméagol in "The Two Towers." While every other character seemed set in their ways Sméagol was very much -- literally - at war with himself. His complexity made him appealing to me. He also became one of the saga's most tedious characters when in "King" he became full-time villain.

A lot of people didn't like the Jackson's King Kong, but Andy Serkis did a good job with expression in that as well. He has talent.

I did enjoy the Hobbit trilogy as well, although not as much as the LOTR trilogy. I guess I’m just a sucker for anything from Middle Earth.

I met of a lot of people like that at Sean Astin's book signing at the Mall of America. They all dressed in their hobbit garb and gladly had him sign goonies merchandise. He was very polite and his kid was pretty funny.
