Terence Stamp playing a cockney

Terrible, terrible accent.

"Just going for a butchers, you know, butchers hook - look"....

Massive cringe.

Ruins the film.

As noted and acknowledged below, he really did grow up on that part of London (and shared a flat with Michael Caine and dated Jean Shrimpton & etc). I learnt this reading the 1st of his autobiographies - he's a good writer and his books are worth reading. Definitely not the usual cash-in crap.

The use of cockney in non cockney company is plain bad manners. Variations of language usually happened so that outsiders would not know all your business. Rhyming slang has its comedic moments but rhyming is interchangeable. It is not a static. Ruby Murray curry. What was it before the lady ever sang? Ruby Murray. Are you in a Ruby Murray. Hurry. Its a nonsensical load of twaddle being given an air of respectability. It made up. On the spot at times. It might be a bit of fun at times but do you think a mixed area police swat team is going to sit and work out instruction from base delivered by a Danny Dwyer type. Some Londoners may give themselves pats on the back for having a second language. We have this problem in Northern Ireland. One tribe wants to have everyone speaking IRISH when all it really wants is the money to pretend it cares. Like the WELSH. The other side pretends that ULSTER SCOTS is an entitled language again for the money but it is only a dialect and maybe less used daily. A lot of places are at this so called heritage nonsense. I was taught ENGLISH language and literature at school not cockney, Irish or Ulster Scots. As a hobby not a problem. the language of silence is not a bad one. GAWD elp us wen road/street signs are in dubious rhyming slang around London. As shown by op. A butchers does not signify the rhyme LOOK. Here we are expected to fill in the blanks the unspoken. Nonsense.
