I played them all in order of release. I bought Resident Evil 1 when it was first released, it was mindblowing! So you can imagine the impact of part 2 in '98, it was double mindblowing! I remember a few PS magazines had given a demo of RE2 away with certain copies, and you could play from the beginning up intil you kill the first licker. Man, there was something like 6 months before the game was released and I played that demo endlessly, couldn't wait.
RE3 was a slight disappointment, it didn't quite match 2 in it's scale or impact, although Nemesis was a great addition to the cast.
4 & 5 are just shooting games, meh.

RE 1 on the Sega Saturn back around 1997. I remember freaking out all my friends by having them come over, watch the intro, and tell them that July 1998 was coming up! hah!
I got about 2/3s done with RE 1 on the Saturn (up to the point where you come back from the guardhouse) and never beat it.
In February of 98, I got RE2 for my 10th birthday and played it back and forth...I only ever beat Leon A, Claire A, and Leon B (only once, though I would always load the save right before the last battle to watch the ending, lol).
For X-mas 98, I got RE:DC for the Playstation along with MediEvil.
Rented RE3 when it first came out in 1999, got to the clock tower on the first day and then stopped right there...that tune from the clock tower music puzzle freaked me out and I didn't bother with it until a few years later when I picked up RE:DC, RE2, and RE3 again.
For X-mas 2000, I got RE: Survivor from my brother...I liked it despite what others said about it...I beat it that night (though you have to replay it over to go through the alternate paths).
Never bothered with CV, Remake, 4, 0, or 5....to me, the first two (with the 3rd being a neat add on) are the best...didn't like how they went way off track with the story line afterwards. Raccoon City being destroyed is a perfect way to end the trilogy.
