this is a cute nice comedy that does a job but people keep saying this is a classic. TOTALLY don't see that. Just watched it for the 3rd time cos i thought i was missing something. I chuckled a few times but it's not in the same league as some other comedy classics i can think of
Yeeeeaaaahhhh, I'm gonna have to go ahead and say that's why they make chocolate and vanilla there tony. I consider this movie not only A classic, but THE classic movie about working in an office. And I did so for 33 1/2 years. Thank goodness for retirement and Mike Judge.
Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar, and / or doesn't.
If you've ever worked in an office and in a cubicle you would understand why this is a classic. I especially loved the "PC LOAD LETTER" message they got from the copier. Back when I worked in an office I never could understand what the hell that was supposed to mean.
On the other hand, that's why they make chocolate and vanilla.
Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar, and / or doesn't.
Ah yes, it's the little details like that that add up to make this such a classic comedy. Love this movie. Millions of people were confounded by the Hewlett Packard "PC Load Letter" message. A typical error message made up by a programmer/engineer - it could have just said "Paper Out" and would have meant so much more...
BTW what the error was actually trying to say was Paper Cassette - Load Letter sized paper. Some technical people are really challenged when it comes to communicating important info to the end-user, and PC Load Letter is a perfect example.
Like when Microsoft changed the error "General Protection Fault" to "Illegal Operation" and people thought their computer was breaking the law.
your comment is ancient but i'll offer this much. "office space" is a lot like "horrible bosses" but not because it deals with workers and their bosses and both contain jennifer aniston. it's all about the chemistry between the guys and i call this movie, the horrible bosses series and hangover series "bromosexual". they are buddies, stuck on a mission.
the similarities with horrible bosses that worked the best for me are specifically the scenes where they are in their "safe place"; a bar, a restaurant, their homes, in a car, etc. really.
here's the worst thing; there was supposed to be a sequel and it was shot down but was going to be that these guys are "still living in apartments". the apartment scenes are the most charming and sweet to me; he has a horrible day, he comes home to his apartment and his neighbor comes over and has a beer and while he sympathizes with his annoyance of people at work, he explains that he has to get up at 6am to do drywall work on a mcdonald's and that line always inspires me because he's more of a "real man" who can deal and our protagonist is a whiny wimp. you love the whiny wimps and when they "win" but still... these are the things that work for me as a guy. i think the jennifer aniston character was inserted solely to keep females interested and the conflicts she's given--told to wear certain effects at work, slut-shaming--work for women but for a guy, who cares.
I guess you have to be able to relate to it and worked in an office environment with incompetent bosses and all other types of crazy co-workers. I think it's cult classic and something I've re-watched many many times and still find funny.
This movie was what made me a Mike Judge fan. I was the right age to be watching Beavis and Butthead, but I didn't like it because of how many of my peers it turned into babbling idiots. Because of Office Space, Idiocracy, and King of the Hill I ended up going back and watching Beavis and Butthead and realized how good the satire truly was. That's the brilliance of Mike Judge, he is probably one of the best at it since Mel Brooks (who also is one of my favorite film makers).
Personal tastes aside, there is brilliance in the writing of Office Space. I feel Mike Judge has only really let us down with Extract, which I liked because it had the same feel as all of his other films, but just wasn't quite the gold mine that his previous two movies were.
