Cap's wife

I don't know if a footballers wife would be against their husband retiring if it was beneficial to their health, seems unrealistic

I know, I was so shocked when she slapped him. She's a spoiled little snob, and doesn't want to lose her position in society.

I don't think it's unrealistic. She's a golddigger, and as un-PC as it might be to say it, such women DO - and always will - exist. The impression was certainly given that she cared more about Cap's ability to create wealth than about his health. She had 'become accustomed to a lifestyle' and didn't want that jeopardized.

But there is that one shot in the climax, a long shot, where Cap is giving instructions to Willie and she seems to have accepted that Cap might make for a very good coach, and there might still be paychecks rolling in in future.

I think she was afraid too of his injuries but she spent her life being his biggest cheerleader. Yes she has a lifestyle she is accustomed to but I don't think that's what the slap was about. I think it was about her not wanting him to give up too easily. She was in team mode and he wanted off the team. It was a very memorable scene. I thought Lauren Holly did an excellent job with a somewhat small part.

no she was a gold digger like other people stated. he was 39 and suffered a horrific back injury, it would have been foolish of him to keep playing. he even said he found work outside of football, but that wasn't good enough for her. Cap was right it was his decision he was simply letting his wife know out of respect. i despise people who hit their partners out of anger of frustration it should be a crime doesn't matter who it is.

Her whole adult identity has been "Cap, the starting QB of the Sharks'" wife. The thought of change scared her to death. She has been "king" of the castle while Cap has been balling all over the country. She was the diametric opposite of Willie's girlfriend. She was also the voice of every person in an athlete's life once they knew he/she has talent and wanted, well intentioned or not, to pull them in a million different directions, none of which the player necessarily wants to follow...Perfectly written, perfectly played. I hated her guts lol.

For her, it wasn't just about the money. It was about the status. Cap had said they had been good with their money, and he already had a broadcasting job lined up, so they would always be very wealthy. But she liked being the star quarterbacks wife. When they were at any formal team gathering she was the queen bee among the other wives. And probably any where she went around town she had every door opened for her. If her husband retired, then she's just another old, rich, spoiled, white lady.
