Other movies about the developmentally disabled?
Besides "I am Sam" I can't think of any other movies about developmentally disabled people (maybe "Crossroads")

One film I really enjoy is My Sister's Keeper with Kathy Bates and Elizabeth Perkins. Bates plays a emotionally stunted woman struggling to become independent, much like Carla, but she bounces from group homes to her own apartment where she crumbles with in days to weeks, and ends up back in a group home. Her sister (Perkins)is much like Carla's mother. She has a hard time grasping the concept that Christine (Bates) needs the support of her loved ones. Awesome movie! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0298454/

Straight, but NOT Narrow Minded
Of course, nto to be coinfused with the "My Sister's Keeper" just about out at the time (May 3,2009) of that PinkAnthem post, starring Cameron Diaz and Abigail Breslin and Sofia V.(not Vergara, the one a few years older), and Joan Cusack and Alec Baldwin--also medical but a totally different one (based on the book by Jodi Piccoult,,,) the Elizabeth Perkins and Kathy Bates one is a different one that PinkAnthem artists to.

"Crossroads?" The Britney Spears movie? Sure, Britney Spears may not be all there, but come on!
Sling Blade (1996)
Of Mice and Men (1992)
The Theory of Flight (1998)
The Yarn Princess (1994) (TV)
Dead Man's Shoes (2004)
Lorenzo's Oil (1992)
Nell (1994)
Children of a Lesser God (1986)
The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter (1968)
Justin Bieber: Never Say Never [2011]!!
This is me just loving on one of my favorite movies, but Lorenzo's Oil shouldn't be on this list. Lorenzo Odone wasn't developmentally disabled. He had Adrenoleukodystrophy. A disease demyelinating progressive degenerative disease. ALD demolishes the myelin sheaths on the axons in his neurons of his brain. ALD basically is like striping the plastic coating on an electrical cord. With out the coating (myelin) the cord (axon) does not properly transmit information throughout the brain. It is a nasty disease and the FDA still has not approved the oil... A good movie none the less. But should not be on this list.
