Such an odd movie

not in an avant-garde or experimental way, but just how the movie is seemingly one minute aimed for little kids, then the next borderline R-rated. probably one of the most intense and disturbing kids movies i've ever seen. people talk about how "scary" Coraline and Courage the Cowardly Dog are but this is a lot worse, with the soldier being shoved into a garbage disposal, the barbie torture/ransom scene, and chip hazard being brutally electrocuted while screaming in agony. but then they suddenly have cartoony sound effects and slapstick humor? it's all over the place. not a bad movie, but it really should've been a fun kids movie or a scary horror film. instead it's like a G-rated kids director and a horror director took the same script, put their own vision on it, and then spliced the two movies together. never seen anything like it.

What was borderline r rated?

We have to remember that the dolls are actually that: inanimate objects that can only walk and talk because they have a highly-sophisticated computer chip and programming. They are not actually living beings.
