DARTH MAUL HAD THE HIGH GROUND!!!!

Lot of *beep* good it did him.

reply

Darth Maul did not expect Obi-Wan to fly up and thrust his lightsaber forward, just like later in III, 3 Jedi Masters, who also had the high ground, did not expect Palpatine to thrust his lightsaber forward and kill each and every one that way.

When Jedi and Sith alike aren't prepared to deflect a thrusting lightsaber, at these critical moments, it puts into question, or perhaps further question, what Lucas was possibly thinking while writing this...

Good point.

Perhaps that's what made Maul the inferior and gave Obi-Wan the wisdom to recognize such a position.

"Have to say, Jimmy - you turned into a real impressive fighter. If I was ol' Mengsk, I'd be runnin' scared from you, too."
"You really mean that, Tychus?"
"Nah. I was just kiddin'."

reply

Obi-wan meant that he had the moral high ground.

reply

Well if he hadn't just stood there and watched as Obi-Wan jumped up and over him......

I mean he even turned round to face him but still didn't use his Sith reflexes to chop his legs off like Obi did to Darth.

He had just killed Obi’s master. He thought Obi was nothing. He underestimated him

reply

Ok you do realize when Obi Wan said that to Anakin he was trying to talk him down so he wouldn’t have to cut the legs off of his former apprentice. He didn’t say that having the high ground automatically results in a victory.
