Julia's clothing/hair

Am I the only one who's noticed that Julia doesn't look '80s at all? I mean, I don't expect every character to be an '80s cliche but I can't imagine anyone looking like her in 1985. Her look is part '70s and part early '90s, clearly jumping right over the decade the movie takes place in. This bothers me every time I watch this otherwise good movie.

yeah I'm guessing it was the producers way of differentiating Julia from the other two main women in the film with Holly and Linda being so over the top as far as wearing cliched 80's garb is concerned. Julia did wear that jean jacket in multiple scenes which were pretty popular at the time esp. between '85-'87-ish...Levi's jean jackets for guys, Guess brand jean jackets for girls were popular in my school....though I don't recall too many girls having butterfly and rainbow patches on their jackets. That was a bit too 70's/90's.

I did notice in multiple scenes that Drew was wearing 10 or 12 eye Doc Martens black boots which certainly weren't worn by girls in the 80's unless they were punks/goths. I'm guessing these were actually Drew's own boots and they just said, ok those things look plain enough, go ahead and wear what you want. No one will be paying any attention to your footwear. Anyway, yeah it does seem odd that with all the cliched outfits they had the other cast members wear, Holly's Madonna outfit, Van Halen t-shirt, Michael Jackson jacket & glove etc, that they put next to no effort into the main female character.

I notice this every single time I watch it. I even try to justify her look by making excuses like, "maybe they were trying to do the Dorthy Hamill wedge with her hair." Or, "maybe her necklace is supposed to be a mood stone." But it never works, I can't explain away her non-80s look.

I agree. I think that every time I watch this film. Julia is great but her hair & clothing absolutely are not '80s.
The color of her clothing (hot pink, etc.) fits but the styles are all wrong.

But then, I felt that they didn't really make the decor of the houses look very '80s either.

Lastly, I'm not sure Billy Idol was the best casting choice. I grew up in the '80s, and its very clear he has 'been around the block' both in years & substance abuse!
The fact that they show a poster of him from the '80s, and then immediately show his slightly worn face & personality does not help.

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
Penfold, shush.

Her haircut was not even "80's" looking, it looked more like it was from the 1960's.

Girls dressed like that when I was in high school and that was in 1993.

Lol, no, you're definitely not the only one. Maybe 2 or 3 things looked genuinely 80s. The hair and the combat boots are the worst.
