1 thing that's always bothered me!

The one thing that has always bothered me about this movie, is the way that Drew dresses! It takes place in the 80s but she dresses like shes from the 90s and it bothers me! Lol..I know its a small detail but I feel like 80s is so easy to dress like. Other than that its my favorite movie! Lol ok rant over :)

i didn;t think she really dressed like the 80's or the 90's. She had kind of a early 60's retro look to her. She dressed more like a housewife than a young woman of the 80's. She may have been going for a Molly Ringwald "The Pickup Artist" look perhaps. but really she just dressed classically. Thank goodness Glenn's hotties chose to dress like Motley Crue groupies.

LOL thats true. I just wish she dressed a little more 80s. But shes so cute in this movie :)

I think the most overt 90s style are combat type boots with dainty floral dresses.

Yes, so true!

She's adorable! I could forgive her for any fashion misfire. She was just perfect as Julia.🐭

I didn't like her haircut though, long hair suits Drew Barrymore better. 

I feel like her haircut didn't really look much better than the Flock of Seagulls guy at the airport.

Her wardrobe was really 50s/60s housewifey, probably to create a complete physical contrast to the other females in the film (Linda and Holly).

Conversely, Robbie was a complete contrast to the other males in the film, at least internally. Which symbolized how they were the odd ones out and therefore meant for each other.

I am just saying that most girls in 1985 had big hair, like Julia's cousin. Julia had more of a 60's flip do.

reply

That same thing bothers me every time I watch the movie!

reply

I have to agree.. She dressed very 90's to me. But, maybe that is because I dressed that way in the 90's. (Dr Martens & dresses)

I know this is an old post but I wholeheartedly agree, her style was most definitely not 80's and it actually sticks out like a sore thumb to me whenever I see this movie!

reply

Agreed. I remember when the movie came out I was looking forward to seeing her in 80s hair and then was disappointed when she had that weird bob flip thing that no one would have had in 1985. But there are lots of weird timeline things, like the brother-in-law watching a much older episode of Dallas when J.R. was shot. Doesn't stop this from being one of my favorite romantic comedies, but it is weird.

reply

Yeah, it was annoying, especially since it was a comedy werd everybody else did dress typically 80s. She really looks out-of-place.
