I'm sorry

I love a cheesy heartwarming film as much as the next person, but the only possible way this film could be watchable would be if it was, in fact, a comedy mocking itself.

And much of the dialog does come across that way.

I tried. I really did. But watching this movie causes physical pain as your brain cells actually die while you sit through it.

I suppose if you were very young when it first came out and it brings back happy childhood memories, you might enjoy it more than I did. Maybe. If there were a lot of alcohol involved in the rewatching.

I, on the other hand, feel nothing more than a desperate need to bleach my brain to remove the memory of the experience.

Movies are IQ tests. The IMDB boards are each person's opportunity to broadcast their score.

Long time coming for response. No need to apologize. I don't agree with you. I found it very enjoyable to watch, but everyone entitled to their opinion.

I can watch it and enjoy it for what it is -- a more kid-friendly version of King Kong with essentially Kong Jr. -- but, despite a good cast, great F/X and lots of action, the movie's somehow shallow with cardboard thin characters. When little Johnny got stuck on the Ferris wheel, compelling Joe to rescue him, I just rolled my eyes.

So I get where the OP's coming from, but the movie's still well done for what it is -- a movie for kids (and the kid in adults) about a lovable but menacing-when-necessary giant gorilla.
