Ian Holm is Frodo in the radio version. William Nighy is Sam is wonderful.

What I liked most about the radio version is the sound engineering for Sauron. It sounds like a giant empty pipe that sucks the life out of a room. No dramatic musical cues or Snidley Whiplash voiceovers, although there's a brief scene where Pippin channels Sauron's voice that sounds like "Dr Ruth".

The Mouth of Sauron is also more menacing in this version.

I still have this set on cassette, although its been almost 20 years since I've listened to it. It was great, with excellent production.
