Brendan Fraser

Sorry but I think he comes across as a character actor trying desperately to pull off a leading man routine.

His attempts to deepen his voice throughout the first half or so of the movie are ridiculous. Listen to his real/natural voice as he cries out: "You're gonna get yours!" while being driven away from the hotel - the guy sounds like he should be on a sitcom.

And is it just me, or does it become painfully apparent that Fraser as an actor is attracted to Rachel Weisz, but not the other way around? You can tell the attraction is only 'represented' by her (a la the Representational style of acting), but actually FELT by him.

I think his over-the-top animated threatrical acting fits the film and its time period, he was probably directed to act as such as opposed to the cool Bogart-esque calm demeanor of Harrison Ford in the Indiana Jones films set in late 30s to 40s. Also if you watch some films from the 20s, quite a few actors were overly dramatic so i think Brendan's acting suits just fine.

I think you're seeing things that aren't there.

Brendan Fraser's voice is actually deep. It becomes higher pitched when he acts comically. As for the supposed attraction between him and Weisz, it's impossible to tell whether it's real because they're both actors. I will say they had chemistry with each other in this particular movie.

Hi, Stratego ! Correct about the voice. Good onscreen chemistry, good working relationship, that's all.
