I heard Shanghai Noon ripped this off
obviously this came first, but the similarities are more than coincidence

shareNo Jackie says in his book that Sammo stole this idea but because it bombed he went ahead and did his. He says this was the only time Sammo ever told him he was sorry for something and they made up.

oh well Shanghai Noon was more enjoyable though
shareWong Fei Hung was a real person, don't u people know ur history?
"When you quote others what does that say about you"
But did Wong Fei Hung ever go to the US?
And I can't find a reference to '13th Aunt' aside from these films...
But then again English written history is rather limited for chinese heros, quite shocking really, very little info on the net about wong fei hungs family life
The fact that this came out first does not mean that Shanghai Noon ripped this off!
Jackie had the idea of playing in a western film for a long time, as he's always fansinated by those old westerns and he's been thinking about the scripts of how to fit Chinese martial arts into this genre. He told the ideas (which was bascially the storyline of Shanghai Noon) to his closed friends and Sammo, whom Jackie trust greatly.
Jackie was busying filming Who Am I at that time when Sammo decided to use Jackie's idea for this film. This film not only follows Shanghai Noon's story (which was based on Jackie's western dreams/ideas) but also borrowed some elements e.g. lost of memory, from Who Am I.
Jackie was obviously not pleased that Sammo took his ideas without so much as askng for his consent and the best part was, Jackie has no actual scripts whatsoever to prove that the ideas were his legally. Even if he did, he would not take any actions against his respected big brother, Sammo.
Besides Sammo saying sorry to Jackie for the first time in their brotherhood, there's also a gesture of apology offered to Jackie by Sammo. He invited Jackie to sing the theme song for the movie. And Jadkie did, and in that way, Jackie has become a part of this movie both credited (singing) and uncredited (ideas of the storyline).
Neither Sammo or Jackie thought of this idea first.
BRUCE LEE already conceived the idea of having a "Kung Fu Western" which he intended to write and star in to be an American TV Series format called "the Warrior."
It made it to the air eventually but he was passed over to write and star and was replaced by that pervert, hack, david carridine. No suprise there. Hollywood is notorious for their rascist ideals and dint believ an ASIAN male can carry a show or movie on their own, even if its the greatest martial artist of the 21st century.
The show was also renamed "Kung-Fu" and Bruce was not given a single credit for the idea.
Plus theres also that other 70's film starring Charles Bronson and Toshirô Mifune called Red Sun that came out BEFORE both Once Upona time in China & America AND Shanghai Noon...

I always thought the same thing since i watched Shanghái Noon for the first time...
Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.
If anything Shanghai Noon ripped off Red Sun.
