Have you met anyone who actually hasn't seen this movie?

I didn't think it was possible, but my friend has never seen this movie. Aside from most little children, I would've never expected someone to actually answer, "I've never seen that movie" when talking about it. You just assume everyone has seen it because it's such a popular movie and was insanely talked about when it was released. Even if you were born after its release date.

Maybe it's a dumb thought, but I really can't think of another movie where it's deemed, "A movie everyone has seen before". With all the memes and parodies done, how? lol. Anyone else?

I've actually met a massive number of people who have seen clips of the movie but have never seen in full.

Case in point: a movie theatre I worked at did a special showing of Titanic on my birthday. Of all the people were there, about half of them had never seen the the film.

I remember being shocked in 98 when Inwould talk to someone who said they hadn't seen it. I was like, but EVERYONE has seen it! It was just such a phenomenon when it came out, you just figured everyone had seen it.

My cousin was a baby when it came out, but then she got to see it in the theater for the rerelease. That made me feel old!

reply

Well, I've seen it enough times for about 20 other people! I saw it 10 times in the theater, then once more in 3D. And I can't count the number of times I've watched it on VHS or DVD!

I intend to live forever.
So far, so good.

I have met quite a few who haven't seen it, yes. Don't be so surprised. A lot of people avoid it because they think that it is a "chick flick."

For the record, there are a lot of movies I haven't seen that people are surprised about:

The Indiana Jones films
The Godfather films
The original Star Wars films
The Lord of the Rings
The Harry Potter films except the first one
Only two of the Avengers films

To name a few.

I just saw it for the first time this morning and yes I was around when it was released and just never saw it.

Jurassic Park is an example; most people have seen the film or are at least familiar with it through promotion, merchandise and media coverage.

This makes me remember Kate Winslet telling an anekdote in a TV-interview. She was hiking a remote trail (in India, if memory serves me correctly) and an old man came her way. He looked at her and said, "Titanic... you!"

It's a film people at least instantly will recognize the poster of.

To know that for sure, on will have to had questioned every person they've met in the last two decades as to whether they've seen the movie.

So many millennials I've spoken to haven't seen it, actually! Surprises me every time.

The world looks to Sweden. 

reply

I'm a millennial and I saw it when I was 8 in 1997. The term millennial covers more ages than you think.

I happen to know a couple of people who've never seen it. And they happen to be adults.
