Which mistake was the dumbest of all?

So right after finding the money, they decide to count it ... right in the back of their *beep* truck sitting on the side of the road! I know it's a tiny town and they are out in the boonies, but certainly someone could (and did) happen by.

Or, was it going back to the plane and putting some of the money back? This was pretty idiotic. Not only do you give away $500K, but you have to go back to the scene and risk being seen again (which of course happened in the film). This sets in motion a series of events that leads to several murders.

The biggest mistake was introducing a brand new character for the final scene.

Not. Cool.

The dumb mistake was they should have let Lou have the money. Only him was really interested. Hank didn't want it at first, and Jacob was a non-factor. Lou would have spent recklessly and given himself away. Hank and Jacob would be accessories, but would be have been looked at kindly by the justice system. Once you get more than one person involved in these things, the odds of being captured increases exponentially.

The dumbest plot in the movie for me was that Hank stayed with his wife after he burnt up the money. Clearly she had more greed than any of the three over the money. All of her plans lead up to someone being murdered. But most of all, she told Hank how she truly felt about their marriage and child and the deaths of three innocent people, four if you include Jacob whom she never liked. After that money burned up, I would've been out of that marriage. The only time I remember seeing her happy in the film, was when Hank came home and dumped that money on the couch. In her defense, maybe the money changed her attitude towards her life. Still, that relationship wasn't gonna have any happy ending after that chain of murders and cooked dollar signs.

ALL of them were dumb, really DUMB!

Schrodinger's cat walks into a bar, and / or doesn't.

Don't know if this was the dumbest but why in heaven's name have Hank tell the other guy not to tell his wife and then show his wife the money first thing?

Ever entrusting a couple of boarder-line retards with a 4.4 million dollar secret. Hank should have spilled the beans to the sheriff on the road that night.

All of them! There were so many. It's hard to pick just one.

You find a bag full of money, all you have to do is keep your head down and your mouth shut. Real easy. But they were incapable of even that.

Maybe making dumb mistakes is the whole point of the movie. I mean, they think the Trans Am is a "classy" car. They think it's cool to tell the cop they heard a plane right from the get go. These guys aren't exactly the sharpest pencils in the stationary.
