Thomas insensitive?

Why does Thomas keep telling Victor that his dad was the greatest dad in the world, even though Victor is obviously hurt and angry at his father for leaving him and his mom? Why does Thomas keep bringing up that Victor's dad took him to Denny's and how he looks like Charles Bronson and stuff when this is clearly making Victor mad? Is Thomas insensitive or is something wrong with his brain? (seriously)

I agree with anfib in that Thomas sort of viewed victor's dad as a father figure since his parents died and it was victors dad who saved him from the fire. But I think also Thomas know that Victor has a problem with his father and hes trying to get Victor to understand why he left and why he was the way he was.

Of course you can trust the goverment... Just ask the Native Americans

It seemed that way to me too - until I realized the major theme of the film is Thomas getting Victor to forgive his father. In the film as a whole, Thomas is a force for good. And, anyway, most of his taunts are from when he was a little kid - and we know what monsters they can be.

He comes off like an aspie, one of those people who don't know how to mind what they say.

There is a man...he travels fast...he has purpose...he brings violence and destruction.

The thing with Thomas is one can accuse him of being thick, REAL thick. He didn't realize the stuff he was babbling on about was annoying to other people to no end. He liked to ramble a lot, he was sort of a Native American "Hans Clodhopper" he never ran out of anything to say and he just kept going on and on and on which we all know can be quite annoying and put anyone off.

You're right he doesn't mind what he says, to who he says it to and what effect it may have, not that he isn't a good person, Thomas is a decent fellow, but that's his main shortcoming.

There's no way he's not mentally challenged, maybe from being thrown out of the burning house as a baby. The first few times you can chalk up to him being dense or whatever, but it's shown that he's been like that his entire life, and his buddy repeatedly tells him to stop/explains how he hates it and yet he continues to do it.

He's the Native American Chris Chan.

Exactly! Just about everything he says comes out sounding weird.

He seemed like he could've been mildly autistic, Asperger's or something.

A STATEMENT IS IRRELEVANT UNLESS IT IS WRITTEN IN CAPS LOCK

I couldnt stand his stories,,,I fast forwarded thru most of his talking. Really bad movie. Not the worst, but pretty bad.

Totally disagree. Thomas is a wonderful person and the best character in the film.

What you often see between Victor and him as boys is just plain trash talking. That's what boys do with one another. Doesn't mean anything.
