How come Dewey knew

About the murders at the movie theater way before Randy and Sidney? He had to get to there by plane, so he must've known for hours.

reply

Dewey must have seen it on the news

As for how he learned about it before they did, maybe there aren't that many people on campus that bother watching the news and word didn't travel to their circle of friends until the next day. The internet was a brand new thing back then and I-Pads and whatnot weren't a thing yet.

reply

You'd expect him to call Sidney, especially since they were pretty close.

If it had been on the news hours before, you'd also expect someone of the press to call Sidney.

reply

Eh, maybe he didn't know her number?

reply

Why wouldn't he? They were close. He could've even asked her father. Now I'm wondering why her father never contacted her throughout the movie!

reply

Because she had moved out of Woodsboro and had her own life going someplace else. Not everyone close keeps in touch, believe it or not.

He was on his way to visit her in Ohio anyway to make sure she was safe, so why bother calling her?

reply

He doesn't have to constantly be in contact with her to have her number, you know. They obviously cared a lot about each other, enough for him to jump on a plane to see if she was alright.

"so why bother calling her?"

Woodsboro inspired murders had just been committed near her campus, it totally makes sense to call her before heading on a plane.

Not only Dewey, but also Cotton, Gale and the nationwide press were already there. It doesn't seem realistic at all that Sidney didn't find out until then. Randy lived on the same campus and seemed to know about it before she did.

reply

What would calling her do? Besides, people don't always do what you'd assume would be the logical/seisible thing to do in a particular situation. It might have been Dewey's instinct to just jump on the plane first rather than call.

You're watching a movie, not a documentary. Scream 2 (and the Scream franchise in general) has a lot worse things you could nitpick for being 'unrealistic' than this

reply

"What would calling her do?"

Well, in this case inform her what happened!

So if something significant happens that one of your loved ones should know about and you're concerned for them, you don't first call them on the phone but instead make a trip of several hours so you can talk to them about it?

"You're watching a movie, not a documentary."

Come on, I can't believe you're actually using that one.

"nitpick"

Can't believe you're using that one either.

I'm fully aware Scream 2 has far more unrealistic stuff and I've already discussed those things on the board before. If you don't care enough about this issue, it's okay to just ignore the thread, you know.

Thing is, I was actually wondering if it was some kind red herring that Dewey was already on campus before he should've known about the murders. But thinking about it some more, it seems the whole world knew about it before Sidney, the key figure of this tragedy.

reply

Dewey probably assumed she already heard about it and was in safe quarters around a lot of people anyway. You're seriously overthinking it

reply

"You're seriously overthinking it"

You're a big fan of all the cliché excuses from the old IMDb boards, huh? So are you also going to tell me I just don't "get it" and should go watch The Transformers instead? Come on, this is a discussion board, we can talk about any minute detail. Like I said, if this thread's not for you, just keep calm and carry on!

Anyway, it might not be something the filmmakers wanted me to think about, but no, I'm not overthinking. Dewey already showing up on campus not long after Sidney finds out is definitely strange. I've always thought so, I'm just surprised it was never brought up.

reply

Hey, I'm just giving the best possible answers to your questions. No need to lose patience and get irritated.

reply

Lol, you're the one telling me I'm nitpicking and overthinking because I wasn't entirely convinced by your explanation...
