Has there ever been a movie with better music?

honestly, has any movie's soundtrack ranked up there with this one? I'm not even a baby of the 80's, but the music is just so perfect for the feel of the film I can't think of any better use of music in any movie

Love the music in this film, Rudie Can't Fail is one of my favourite songs, a little unusual I know. Also I think they realised the film couldn't be put out without "Take on me" on there, what a classic, I once almost got thrown out of a Drum and Bass club for requesting that song!

reply

Almost famous. End of story.

Can we also discuss how much it sucks that the score was never released?

it's a great soundtrack, other great ones are Empire Records and The Crow.

Royal Tenenbaums

This one is up there as far as soundtrack compilations go -- it's hard to have better taste than Joe Strummer. Other ones that stand out are Tank Girl (compiled by Courtney Love, although the movie isn't as good as Grosse Pointe); the Royal Tennanbaums (which is also a movie that's not as good as Grosse Pointe); Gone in 60 Seconds (still probably not as good as Grosse Pointe); Oh Brother, Where Art Thou; and Forrest Gump.

Although Grosse Pointe is still probably my favorite.

goodfellas's soundtrack is slightly better than this. but for both movies, without the soundtrack they would not be half the movie they are

reply

They really found good songs from the 80's. An accomplishment.

nobody has mentioned trainspotting?

GoodFellas, Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump and Good Morning Vietnam are on par with GPB.

I only saw the last hour or so of this film last night and it is, as you Americans say 'totally awesome'.

The music is brilliant.

The only low point for me is the rap track 'White Lines' but I guess that is because with hindsight we are now so sick of talentless black guys boring us to death with the same dull, repetitive, misogynistic, homophobic lyrics over the last 10 years. At the time, it probably seemed edgy.

So, fair play to the Music Supervisor; a fantastic soundtrack that will stand the test of time and a pretty cool movie to boot.

White Lines by Melle Mel, is light-years away from today's "dull, repetitive, misogynistic, homophobic" rap.

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five are music pioneers, and they are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

With that said, White Lines is not a great song, and not one of the best songs in a movie packed with great songs, but nonetheless...lumping White Lines (which warns against the dangers of cocaine, addiction, and drug smuggling) to the current rap pabulum, is kinda silly.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?
