After the final swim

I'm confued about the scene after the final swim. Irene is siting in a car in some parking lot. Vincent finds her waking up with her hair style undone, as if she spent the night there after he telss her he is not a murdeder.

My questions are: Where was she, and how did she get there?

Last we saw her, she was at Jerome's apartment. Anton drove her there. I guess she cried herself to sleep in Vincent's car, and he finds her there the next morning?

Maybe I am dense, but that scene always confuses me. Still, one of my all-time favorite movies.

maybe a scene was cut

It is confusing. But I reason from what follows--they wind up in his bed, not hers--that she sat all night outside his apartment, waiting for him. He came back from the swim and was unwilling to wake her up, so sat and waited until she did. (Look, I'd wake her up, but it made for good drama doing it his way.)

I think GordianNott's description sums it up. I don't think there's a missing scene - the fade from black signals a time gap, and Vincent's presence, sitting on the road against her car, tells you he's been waiting for her to wake up. And it has to be his place or she wouldn't be sleeping in her car.

As for not waking her up, guys do stuff like that when they're in love. I imagine he starts out watching her sleep, then decides to sit quietly until she wakes up.

Of course, because she's Uma Thurman, she's not drooling onto her sleeve as she sleeps, and she doesn't wake up with knuckle-indentations on her face.

Makes sense. No way Uma is a drooler.
