The Funniest Scene

Remember the scene where Penelope, her servant, and Odeysseus' mother were at the beach just before Odeysseus' mom drowns herself? All I'm asking is - what's the servant doing in the background? She looked like a mental patient, but it was so funny! Anybody remember that scene?

reply

My favorite is when one of the suitors throws a chair at Telemachus and it hits Odysseus disguised as a beggar. It looks so funny.

I'm so going to have to rent this movie out again and watch the whole thing.. comedy at it's best..

reply

Yeah, that was a hilarious scene! I don't understand why the director put all of it in there though. The movie is hardly acurate to the book, so why bother with the realistic over the top ancient greek way? Naucsicca is hardly metioned at all, and she was a bigger part, Athene comes at all the wrong times, hes disguised as a beggar BEFORE they get there and wheres Zues???

OMGGGGGGGG THAT PART WAS SOO funny.. we`re watching it in class right now, and that part we watched like on tuesday.. omg i had a laughing attack.. LOL.

reply

I'm seeing this movie for the third time in two years in my class so right before the servant part i remembered it and burst out laughing, my class thought i was crazy and didn't understand it but i thought it was really funny.

reply

really funny is how the mother takes like five steps and shes already underwater lol. This movie was pitiful, but great laugh out loud when you shouldn't be laughing parts.

"I AM HECTOR!" (peace sign with both hands) lol.

I remember it. We were watching it in school and everyone was laughing. I honestly thought it was weird but not all that funny.

EVERYTHING in this movie is a total joke. down to the last random goat Odysseus has on board. my entire class (including my teacher) didn't stop laughing through the entire thing

reply

I remember that! Very funny!

I wathced this in my class too, and when that scene came everyone started cracking up. I guess the scene was meant to be emotional, but it just came out as cheesy. Especially when Odysseus' mother just walks into the sea, and we see Penelope crying, then suddenly, the camera is back onto the sea and she just DISAPPEARS like that...and the servant having a seizure in the background.
I think the scene was just badly done. It turned out to be hilarious rather than emotional.

reply

I remember that part. It really weird how Odysseus's mother walked into the ocean and then just vanished.

reply

Heh, we're watching it in class right now and this is one of the corniest parts. Me and my friend were cracking up, he was like "She should get an oscar for that seizure!"

Too funny.

reply

HAHA we watched that scene the day before yesterday...everybody was laughing continually until the teacher looked up and was like 'What's so funny?' and someone had to tell her about it...apparently she hadn't watched the movie beforehand.

yeah that jennifer girl, she's one classy babe :]

Everything in this movie is hilarious. It's either mind-numbingly boring or side-splittingly hilarious.

1. The baby that was born that looked like it was 3 months old.
2. "I am this tree."
3. When they leave the Trojan horse, and everyone wakes up at the same time.
4. The whole Cyclops scene
5. The messanger of the gods. He was totally hitting on Odysseus.
4. "Who is the wind god? ...I am. I am."
5. The whole "NOOO" scene was good.

Everything in this movie.

Après moi, le déluge.

We just finished this in class, and it was a horrible horrible thing. I actually slept through most of it. Except the "NOOOOO" scene, that made me giggle.

and Town_Called_Malice, I absolutely love your signature, you're talking about the Regina Spektor song right?

Cap ou pas cap?

reply

Yes, yes.

I love Regina Spektor!

Me and my class just watched the movie today. It was so funny when Penelope jumped out in front of her mother-in-law and yelled "NNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!" We all started laughing so hard! I don't know if anyone else in my class noticed the servant, by i did. It was also pretty funny!

reply

I was about to start a topic about this. But then I found it here. I couldn't stop laughing. I'm sorry, but it was just so CHEESY! When the servant was having a "seizure" I was laughing enough. But I totally lost it when Penelope went in front of her and screamed "NOOOOOOOOO!!!" Everyone in the class was laughing at that point. Then the person sitting next to me said, "Is Penelope trying to tackle her?" I laughed harder because it looked like that.

Funny stuff, funny stuff. If you want the real dramatic scenes, read the book.

The servant's nervous breakdown, and Penelope screaming "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!", was the only thing I remembered clearly about the movie.
XD Our English teacher purposely rewinded that scene two times for us to get a nice laugh.
But it might be true, that might have been how the they showed emotion in those times.

I cannot believe other people think this is as funny as I do! I was literaly begging my teacher to rewind this and crying from laughter!! Also, after Odyseus' mom drowns herself, look at what Penelope does with her head, like its a spasming or something. This whole scene is so hilarious- from the servant, to the NOOOOOOO!, to the head shaking, and when Odyseus' mom screams at Penelope.

They say love and money don't mix, but you can't blame Harry Lockheart for trying...

reply

That was done so BADLY (acting-wise) yet SO HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!! Although, a scene that I did NOT care for was when Hermes told Odysseus to seduce Circe in order to turn his men back to normal and Circe repeated EVERYTHING Hermes said!!!!!!! I HATE when people do that!!!!!

I just watched it today and about my peed my pants when I saw the servant in the background going crazy and the the Penelope part... LMAO.

reply

I liked the part where the whole crew of sailors hug Odysseus goodbye and where he comes out of the ship with a goat walking dutifully towards the fire. Oh! and then he threatens the spirits with the goat. It was like "I have a goat and I'm not afraid to use it!" So basically the whole Hades' realm part was hilarious.

reply

lol
i just watched the movie for my honors class and we thought the same thing
mostly because we figured why she would be crying and stuff when she has nothing to do with either of them
we also loved the scene when the fat guy was turned into a pig
and when Odeysseus and his son ((whose name is slipping my mind)) started killing the suitors. lol we are a sadistic class no doubt
