Pretty Good Movie

Hadn’t seen this in awhile. I like that the movie is not entirely revolved around the tornado. The story is pretty nice and the acting is touching. I’m surprised how it blew out the box office. Damn that’s impressive. Back when acting had it’s merits.

I agree. It was entertaining, well acted and with good visual effects. I rated it an 8/10.

good rating. The movie actually blew up in the box office, impressively and also culturally.

It's an excellent film. I love it. Easily my favorite disaster movie of all time and it's not even close.

The story is good, the script is good with a lot of effective humor, and the acting is excellent. What a cast! Bill Paxton, Helen Hunt, Cary Elwes and Phillip Seymour Hoffman in a movie about a killer tornado? Sign me the fuck up!

It's a shame that we haven't gotten any other good tornado movies since this one. Not many filmmakers have even tried, but the closest we've gotten to a "good" tornado movie since Twister is Into the Storm in 2014, and it is only a decent 6/10 kind of effort.

Regarding the box office, I think its success came because no one had ever seen a movie like this before. Yes, there had been disaster movies in the 70s, but the genre was essentially dead in 1996 and this would be the first time that the relatively new power of CGI was used in this way. I actually still remember going to see the movie in the theater with my brother and I remember the hype surrounding it. It was a great experience. The film deserves the money it made.
