Scene never shown in final cut

I remember seeing an early screening of this movie in 1996 (much of the film was still raw and had a lot of storyboards in the scenes) But one of the scenes that never made it which i thought was good was that after Gil saved Bobby's son from drowning they hung out and talked for awhile. Bobby even invited Gil to their home game that night and Gil got to sit in the dugout. Gil actually noticed the opposing pitcher dropping his arm motion or something indicating that he will be throwing a curve and sure enough the next time Bobby comes to bat Bobby notices the pitcher doing that and hits a home run. They go back to Bobby's beach house afterward and that his when we see the scene of Gil pitching to Bobby on the beach wearing his old jersey and Bobby realizes that Gil is nuttier than an Almond Joy.

I wonder why they didn't leave that scene in or have it on any of the deleted scenes.

Probably cut for time..

There's a POSSIBLE deleted scene glimpsed in a production still. It's Gil and his son at the game. In the released film they watch the game and come into contact with Bobby but in the still we can see Bobby signing an autograph for Gil's son.

Sometimes deleted scenes never even make the DVD. I remember when I was living in NY I woke up to find they were filming a scene from Christopher Guest's folk mockumentary "A Mighty Wind" right outside my building. Didn't make the final film, and didn't show up on the DVD.

Just saw a production still with a shot from that scene that you described, with them on what looks like like a stadium, Gil has the red jacket on and talking to Bobby who is in his team uniform.

I also saw another still/press photo that shows that scene I mentioned in my previous post, where Gil gets Bobby to sign an autograph for his son during the game. The text under it gives some context and confirms this so it's not just a still but another deleted scene. I think this might be what Bobby refers to when he says "Have I seen you before?" when they get a beer in his beach house.

Sounds to me that scene wasn't even needed, that's why it was cut.

I have this on Blu Ray.. I enjoyed it, so I guess I'm in the minority on this, but no deleted scene you just described
