The "Dramady"- a tragic experiment

After the hit True Lies (1994) Hollywood thought that a new kind of movie was possible....the Dramady (half serious Drama/action, half comedy)

This hope was short lived. Bulletproof was one of the most panned and biggest box office bust of 1996.

Hollywood stayed away from this type of movie for a long long time... because of this movie.

Unfortunate, because True Lies did have a good mix of the two, it shows you how risk adverse Hollywood can be.

Havent they always done this?
The same thiought occured to me while watching Lethal Weapon one time.
"how are these guys laughing and joking when therrs all thisd violence and death?"

"Action comedy" is a thing

The big difference with this movie is that the two stars are comics.

If the actor is labeled a comedian, the action part can be laughable because the tough guy thing needed for action roles isn't plausible for some viewers.
