You gotta admit, though, it all adds some campy hilarity to the whole thing...
This movie is loads of fun and it's plenty funny (mostly unintentionally, I'm sure), but it still counts. Although I like watching the movie, I'd have to say that anyone who sees this and concludes that Jet Li is a martial arts marvel must not have seen many martial arts movies. While he IS a martial arts marvel, I don't think he shows much proficiency in this particular movie, because most of the choreography is done with wires. He does do some pretty cool things none-the-less, but if it were supposed to be a serious WuShu movie, they'd have had to eliminate a lot of the wire action. Fearless (his more recent pick) has some pretty excellent stuff in it, and not as much wire-play from what I could tell.
Oh, and there's also a lot of quick cutting done in this one. The average shot in the fight scenes is significantly under half a second. If you want to see some pretty amazing choreography and fighting with almost no noticeable wire-play, and long takes, check out the Jackie Chan vs. Brad Allen fights in "Gorgeous." Now there's an under-rated movie!
