CGI ruined the experience for me

Did anyone else notice the terrible CGI in the movie? It actually made me cringe when those laser beam turrets were firing....or worse yet....the Steyr AUG with the rail gun effect.

Ok ok, well it didn't completely ruin the movie for me, but I did find it most annoying. Nowhere else in the movie is such advanced weaponry mentioned or used except in the...er....Commander's lair? (I have the english only version...)

You gotta admit, though, it all adds some campy hilarity to the whole thing...

This movie is loads of fun and it's plenty funny (mostly unintentionally, I'm sure), but it still counts. Although I like watching the movie, I'd have to say that anyone who sees this and concludes that Jet Li is a martial arts marvel must not have seen many martial arts movies. While he IS a martial arts marvel, I don't think he shows much proficiency in this particular movie, because most of the choreography is done with wires. He does do some pretty cool things none-the-less, but if it were supposed to be a serious WuShu movie, they'd have had to eliminate a lot of the wire action. Fearless (his more recent pick) has some pretty excellent stuff in it, and not as much wire-play from what I could tell.

Oh, and there's also a lot of quick cutting done in this one. The average shot in the fight scenes is significantly under half a second. If you want to see some pretty amazing choreography and fighting with almost no noticeable wire-play, and long takes, check out the Jackie Chan vs. Brad Allen fights in "Gorgeous." Now there's an under-rated movie!

Don't worry about the CGI, just pay attention to the story...

Like most HK films (lets be honest, most all Asian films), bad CGI isn't uncommon.

it was made in 1996 - its not terminator 2, it has a low budget...what were you expecting?????

i know right??? ive seen movies with good cgi that sucks. who cares? that has nothing to do with the film or the story. you want good cgi go watch american films or d-war. dont complain if you watch a great story about something so insignificant.

Let's put a smile on that face!

i think the cgi was ok for a '96 flick. and it didn't suck for me.

The CGI and wirework were OK but the annoying *beep* hip hop soundtrack used for the film pissed me off.

Being hit by someone in a moving car is no basis for a relationship.

This flick was flawless. If you actually noticed the CGI then you must be an autistic assgoblin.

Moreover, the hip-hop tracks perfectly suited the scenes and this is one of the best Asian films I've seen.

I ain't biased, I rip on chinks all the time. The movie simply kicks ass.

If you think the CGI is bad on this, watch Black Mask 2: City of Masks.

Watching all of Jet Li's hong kong movies are painful due to the bad direction and scene cutting.... I am a huge Chan fan and it doesnt compare at all.... aside from Fist of Legend, and Once upon a time

If its not Jackie Chan; Its most likely not interesting.

it depends, are you 12?

pfft bad cgi...nothing's worse than RZA *beep* up a movie with his misfit hip-hop soundtrack. He killed Ong-Bak and Black Mask, I puked. I'll never watch or recommend any other movie that has his music in it; he sucks.
Watch chinese version, which is also uncut. Much much better.

nah i have seen way worse CGI plus for a 1996 movie it wasn't THAT bad.

reply

It was actually good.
