Yes it is if sea thrillers are your thing. One of a few films to match it's novel incarnation.

I personally would have loved if it went for another hour. For me the longer the movie the more I get intrigued with the story line and characters.
The 187 minute version is far more superior to the badly cropped 115 minute or so version.
I'd watch it if it went for 247 minutes if it was ever done. I have the Titanic extended version of nearly 4 hours. Awesome watch.

8/10 I've always enjoyed it. Loved the cast, the story, and the creature effects.

I liked it quite a bit, but make sure you're seeing the original 2 hour, 56 minutes version rather than the gutted 1 hour, 56 minutes version
