This is loosely (very, very loosely) based on the Mark Twain novel. It is really a combo of the Prince and the Pauper and the Parent Trap.

They really aren't identical, they just closely resemble each other. Is it impossible to closely resemble another person enough to completely switch lives and have the people they're closest to (Diane, Roger, Vinny, etc.) not notice? Probably not.

The olsen twins are not quite identical. They have said a couple times that they are fraternal and it shows a lot more as adults they look a lot different. I think it's most likely family resemblance since their younger sister Elizabeth and their brother look a lot like them too. Check out twin strangers on Youtube it makes the premise seem not as crazy.

There are many unrelated people who are identical in real life. Colloquially, they are known as "twin strangers." It is said that as many as five or six different people in your lifetime will look exactly like you, even though they share no family relation.
