Nate

I think a more gutting plot twist would have been Nate being an informer and setting up Neil and his crew all this time. Waingro being a source from Nate would also be icing on the cake.

It’s not a bad idea, but imo it would come off as forced, betrayal for the sake of betrayal sort of thing. I’ve always liked that sliver of ride or die loyalty Neil and Nate share between each other. It’s one of the narrative threads that greatly contributes to Neil’s crew being unusually competent at their craft. When they do the bank heist, you’re confident they’re going to pull it off, well mostly anyways, and Nate being someone Neil trusts completely is a major component of that.
I also think it was a nice touch to show that just because Neil is a career criminal, he has people in his life that he genuinely cares about, his crew as well as Nate. Neil and his crew aren’t antagonists that we’re rooting against, they’re flawed characters yes, but we’re still somewhat hopeful they pull off the heist at the end, and make their getaway, and that’s partly because of the relationships they share between each other, which in some ways aren’t that different from the relationships many of us have in our lives.
