just now realized this....

Die hard, McClane kills first terrorist about 30 mins in.

Die hard 2- guy crushed in luggage area about 20 mins in.

Die Hard 4- multiple kills in ferrell apt no more than 20 mins in.

Die Hard 5- shootout in safe house at least by 45 mins in.

But in vengeance, McClane q tally doesn't kill anyone until the bank elevator scene....70 mins into the movie. They don't have him kill anyone til well over an hour through, never realized that.

I know, it's not life altering information.

yep it was a movie more about him doing a lot of running around and solving problems and of course figuring out what was going on and where next more so in this one, hence him having his side kick with him the whole time for the first time in a die hard.

where as in the first 2 he was more quickly re acting to the take over style situations occuring, especially in the first movie. it was the most complicated die hard of the series, but i liked that.

reply

Good catch. Never really thought about that much. Interesting.

Even the villains are less villainy.

Die hard -Hans was going to kill them all.

Die Hard 2 - Sanders was willing to kill anyone it took, whole planes filled with random people including children.

LFODH - the fire sale would kill indiscriminately for sure.

I never saw 5, i heard it sucked so I cannot comment.

DHWAV - the villains go out of their way to not kill people constantly. The neck sleeping injections, "No shooting!", "dont leave that there, some kid could... put it in the back", and "there never was any bomb in the school" "Of course not, I'm not a monster".... On top of all that, they were *beep* the Federal Reserve Bank. Its kinda hard not to get behind that.

reply

Die Hard 2's main villain was Colonel Stuart, not Sanders.

reply

I realized that the first time I watched this. Surprised it took you that long

reply

DHWAV is a fundamentally different type of movie. The first two are siege films, where McClane has the advantage of surprise. In WAV the villain has the element of surprise and uses it to target and torment an unsuspecting McClane, it takes a long time for McClane to survive the games and then turn the tables on Simon.

It was clever of McTiernan to switch genres to a buddy comedy rather than try and reinvent the wheel (although I love Die Hard 2).

4 and 5 don’t exist as far as I’m concerned, they’re atrocious.

reply

4 isn't, as I love the hackers aspect, but yes, in 5, McClane is killing innocents on purpose, so 5 sucks balls!

reply

I notice pointless weird stuff too, so I appreciate this at any rate

reply

tenuously linked, but in Terminator 2, Arnold doesn't terminate anyone?
