I'm curious to know why the character annoyed you so.
sharei didnt have any problems with her. she messed around with that pimp because while anthony was in vietnam, he didnt write her or get in contact with her or anything. he could have been dead for all she known. although when he came back he did nag him for a while, but other than that she helped him the best she could. she used sex to try to take his mind off of things.

shareI think Juanita was just another victim in this. She allowed her emotions to take over. Based upon the courtroom scene. She appered to regret her actions as well. She did what she could to survive. The whole thing was a mess. They screwed around like kids do and she ended up pregnant She had her back agianst the wall. She was going to school and raising a kid on her own. I think the acting job Rose did with this charecter was great.

I liked her character as in what it brought to the table. I will say something the scene were Anthony chokes her is really powerful and hits home. I dont like the fact that she ooled around with the pimp when he was gone but if you look at it from her point of view. She probably had little if ANY skills to get a job so she did what she had to to feed and cloth her baby and put a roof over their heads.
What I don't like is how she let the frustrations of having no money let her talk down to Anthony when she had NO idea what he been thru in 'Nam. Totally disrespectful to a man period some of the things she said let alone a Veitnam War hero like Anthony. It almost seemed she was used to living a certain way when Anotnhy was gone cause she was dealing with Cutty and when Anotnhy returned she had to stop, Anthony could not provide her with the money and lifestyle she was used to and she resented hm for it. At least that is how I see it.

She was nagging. When they first had sex, she annoyed me. It was like she was trying to trap him. He just wanted to express himself to her and she was trying to catch a husband. And even though he did not write to her when he was in nam, when he came back and was ready to take care of business, she was still messing around on him. And he was right, how did he even know if that second child was even his?!?!

I agree, he definitely had PTSD and Juanita lacked the sensitivity and intelligence to understand that. Anthony did the best he could given the circumstances, wasn't like he laid around the home all day being a bum. Post-Vietnam she just had a foul personality: think about it, Juanita showed more respect for a pimp/criminal than for a man who had tried to make an honest living for his family.
It her behaviour that drove him to the drastic measures later and she's partially responsible for his fate because he did that stuff out of desperation to provide for his family - not out of greed.
Anthony should never have got her pregnant again, the first time was bad enough. The whole situation was messed up, too much soon: a relationship that might have seemed like love at 18/19 was a nightmare at twenty something. Matter of fact, he literally chose the wrong sister - Delilah was much better and liked him too but Anthony never saw it. share
she did'nt treat him right once he got back from 'nam. but she was there for him during the court proceedings,it's the least she could do,her pressures about money is 1 of the reasons he was desperate enough to try & pull a robbery.
shareJuanita was young and immature, clearly struggling in poverty, raising a daughter while this nation sends her love and daughters father off to fight in a pointless war. How many professionals knew and understood PTSD back then? and we expect her to? Could she have been more understanding...perhaps yes..but a woman who felt cornered enough that she felt it necessary to go with a gangster in order to survive is not likely to understand her man's drinking, psychological problems and inability to provide on the same level. This was very real and well presented in this film.

lol perhaps....like someone else pointed out, Anthony was working but it wasn't glamourous or enough for her she should have been supportive of him instead of nagging him to bring in huge amounts of money like Cutty. He told her he didn't like that man around him and she should have respected that. What mature parent brings that kind of person around their kid. For all the flack Anthony gets, Juanita was a pretty bad person.
