Me.

The movie is so predictable that you only expect when will something happen (and I haven't read much about the plot before watching it). Some scenes are great, but great as idea, symbol, a very good work... and emotially? No. Not even close. And I don't consider myself to be made of stone.

I saw this movie way back right after it came out on video... My sister and I watched it, and by the end of it we were both sobbing. My boyfriend actually called me about 5 minutes after it was over to see when I would be meeting him to go out, and I was still crying so hard that he thought something bad had happened! When I told him that I was just crying over the movie we rented, he couldn't believe it.

To this day, whenever a conversation turns to sad movies, I always mention this one. I'm going to put this on my Blockbuster.com rental list now.

I'm surprised you haven't purchased it.

I work at a video store and I was putting up a few video's when I ran across this film. I liked both kids who were on the cover having seen their other movies and when I read the back, it just became more interesting, so I rented it first. The sameday I went back and bought it. This movie is absolutly amazing I've watched it over 20 times now since I've bought it and I cry every single time. Great movie for anyone.

ohh totally balled, in front of my parents no less and I was pretty young too. Brad and Joe played off each other ever so well, the chemistry was great, and kudos to Mr. Horton for letting the boys go with their instincts, instead of making the scences wooden, phony or too hollywood.

There are not very many films that can evoke those kind of emotions in me, save Dead Poets Society and Empire of the Sun, but like you stated here, The Cure is such a film, and certainly should recognized for its powerful impact especially with its genre in this day and age.

Bye now.

Another film similar to The Cure is The Mighty, has the same basic meaning, (treat other how you would like to be treated) But different story. You should check it out. It has Eldon Henson and Kieran Culkin who play two friends, one is handicap, Sharon Stone plays one of the boys mom. It has a heartwarming story. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119670/

totally remeber seeing the trailer for The Mighty, never got a chance to watch it. Thanks for reminding me about it, will certainly let you know what I thought of it.

reply

No problem... I'm not sure if you have Comcast Digital Cable but The Mighty is on On Demand in the Premium Channels under Encore, but it goes away after 10/11/07 so if you can catch it before it's gone!

This and Simon Birch were my childhood tearjerkers.
...both starring Joseph Mazzello.

If you liked The Cure and you haven't seen Simon Birch, I HIGHLY recomend it. It is amazing as well.

I was a kid and I watched this with my mom and sister and tried really really hard to hide the fact I was crying. I agree with the guy on another board topic who said 'you have to be inhuman not to be moved by this movie'. really sad that brad renfro died recently in real life. I knew I knew him from something.

reply

I was already near tears at the end, but when I saw that shoe in the coffin, I just lost it. I cried like a baby.

reply

I didn't cry at all...but I agree that it's a very sad movie.

reply

I cried & I laughed (few times each ) in this movie...not many of them do that

reply

The saddest scene in this whole movie is when he lets his shoe down the river. Oh my god. I could cry just thinking about it.

reply

When he went alone, I was sitting there thinking "give him your shoe!" and when they show him without it, I was a river T_TT_T_T_T

It's just so... T_T...

I love this movie! The story is realistic and touching. Both actors Brad Renfro and Joe Mazzello were terrific. I love the scene where Erik puts Dexter´s shoe on the river and then looks at it until it is gone.
