What would've happened if Sam 'Ace' Rothstein actually took the case to the Supreme Court?

Hi.

Everyone was worried back home that he was going to take the case all the way to the Supreme Court, and I was just wondering, what's the worst that could've happened as a result of it? Would the laws there IMMEDIATELY dig deeper and find out that both Sam and other members are members of the Mob who are running the casino illegally and have them all arrested?

Also, they and Joe Pesci were so worried and concerned when Sam was appearing on TV even though he later claimed it was for defense and that this way nobody would mess around with him, but in reality was he really risking it big in this way?

And finally, was it really JUST down to De Niro firing the brother of commissioner Pat Webb that caused all of his downfall?

You hit on it -- the Mob was worried that the attention would expose their involvement and end up costing them money. Ace was sent there to run a business because he knew the nuts and bolts of it like few people. But he was also sent to do it quietly. The TV show was absurd and exact opposite of what they wanted.

His ego just got the better of him. If he had given Webb's relative a different job, away from the gambling operation where his naiveté cost the house $$, he would have made a powerful friend. Instead he made a powerful enemy. If he kept the money flowing to the Mob, he would have been de facto more powerful than Nicky, despite being Jewish and ineligible to ever be a "made guy", because the money is all that mattered.
