"I want Parkman."

It was a little ridiculous how Vaughn came in and told Taylor he wanted to walk the hitter and load the bases so he could face Parkman. I don't care if Taylor had the utmost confidence in Vaughn when he had his best stuff. This was way too unrealistic and fake. No way a major league manager, no matter what the circumstances, would jeopardize an ALCS game or any other game for that matter. I would've had the scene go with Vaughn coming in with Parkman up and Taylor telling him to walk him. Then Vaughn would tell Taylor he wanted to pitch to him. Then he could say, "I want Parkman." Why they didn't do it that way is beyond me.

You're right. I actually thought this was a historical documentary until I realized how unrealistic that one scene is.

reply

This could've still had the Vaughn-Parkman showdown without that ridiculousness.

reply

It made no sense. For 2 movies Taylor was a no nonsense player/coach who knew the game. One of the most idiotic scenes in the movie.

You're scenario would have made more sense, and a similar situation happened in the '84 Series when Goose Goosage talked his manager out of walking Kirk Gibson. Gibson hit the home run that clinched the series for the Tigers.

but if not for that ridiculousness then we would not have gotten the great Harry Doyle line "Obviously Taylor is thinking...…….. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL HE'S THINKING!"

reply

I think they just did that so the announcer could say that funny line "i don't know what he's doing!"
