gary oldman was miscast

I still think this is a great movie tho oldman ruins it with his over the top acting and fake acccent , I think Christopher walken woulda been a much better choice

gary oldman is not FUCKING miscast. he makes this film along side jean Reno

reply

Nah. The main villain needed to be outrageous and over the top to counterbalance the "hero's" quiet, reserved personality.

Gary Oldman and Jean Reno were both great in their roles.

Oldman wasn't miscast. He's normally a great actor, but like you say he was way over the top in this one. Besson screwed up in not reigning him in. I was laughing at his histrionics, which would be fine in a genre parody, but not in a film like this that so desperately wanted to be taken seriously. If anything, the biggest mistake the producers made was letting a cheeseball hack like Besson direct it. What Leon needed was a director with a kickass sense of realism, like William Friedkin in his prime.
