why does everyone hate this movie ?

i think this is a very good action movie.

it's a good " who did it? " movie

i like it. good action and suspense. why does bruce willis and everyone say its crap ? there has been worse movies made.

reply

I love this movie, Ever since it came out on DVD, when DVD's came out, I bought it and have had it since...

reply

meh, its just the loosers that expect another Die Hard and because this film doesn't have as much bang as DH. AND Steven DeSouza didn't write SD.

They're Coming To Get You, Barbra.....

I thought it was a real good movie too, besides the DIE HARD action movies, this is 1 of his better action thrillers, up there with the classic - THE LAST BOYSCOUT.

reply

I really enjoyed this movie, not the greatest but it was entertaining.

reply

stop fooling yourselves this movie is terrible

I like this movie. Psycho "Who's the Best Cop" Jimmy is a trip.

The dumb stuff to me wa first of all, Dennis Farina, doesn't look old enough to be Danny and Jimmy's father. He really is not old enough to be Danny's father, and he'd have been a teenage dad with the other one.

Also, doesn't undercover Jo jump under the covers with Willis a little too for a serious IA Emily detective?

reply

oops - I got that mixed up - Farina was about 10 when Robert Pastorelli, who played Jimmy, was born.

reply

Pastorelli's acting is horrible and he's got the 2nd worst ever rug on his head (only Trump's dead animal pelt is worse)

reply

This isn't very helpful. Why do you think it's terrible? That was what the original poster wanted to know, and I do too: Why does everyone think this is a bad movie. I find it very entertaining, and just got done watching it for the third or fourth time. It's in my collection along side other Bruce Willis action movies like the Die Hard series. No, it doesn't compare to those films, but I think it's worthy of a place on my shelf with them.

So, still no one has answered the question. Why does everyone (including Bruce Willis) hate this movie?

reply

Oh, why? How about the ridiculous dialogue, the countless continuity errors, the total lack of plot coherence or logic?

Willis basically reached a low in his career during the early 90s, and this is the best proof of that statement.

reply

Or that people who jump off bridges are apparently never searched for. To me that poorly done plot point sets up the entire premise of the film's resolution, but it doesn't stand up to any scrutiny.

Then, the final scenes focussed on a lot of gunfire after years and years of the killer being very careful seemed just like a sloppy and formulaic Hollywood way to bring a plot to an end.

The film was ticking along at a 6 or 7 until the finale, and then as it shifted into utter predictability I had to chop off 2 points from my rating.

reply

1.) With the current, he could have been long gone before divers were organized.

2.) He was cornered, shots were fired at him, and all Hell broke loose. Formulas exist for a reason.

3.) Predictability depends on who's making the predictions. Nick talking Jimmy into giving himself up would be an anti-climax, and not what most of the audience would want.

It kept me entertained. 7/10

reply

I agree, not the greatest but still good.

reply

[deleted]

Yeah, it was actually pretty decent.

reply

I like it too. Who cares what anybody else thinks. What do they know.

reply

I agree; just saw it and came away with a very good impression. Dennis Farina and Tom Sizemore kick ass in this movie...well, except for the part where Sizemore starts fearing for his life. Anyway, great one!

reply

Why does eveeryone hate this movie? Not everyone does. Only people with IQ's above 85 hate it. That means about half the American public will enjoy this dreck. Even Willis said it sucked you morons.

reply

I have an IQ of 147 and I enjoyed the movie.

I would not say its great but I wanted a detective movie to watch and flipped through cable.

This was on and I noticed the outstanding cast and the fact that it takes place in Pitsburgh and that its mostly on the water (neat!).

I was able to follow it while cooking and baking which means that its not a great or deeply intellectual movie, but still entertaining in its own right.

reply

I also have an IQ of 147, or at least I used to, ...until I watched this movie a few minutes ago. Now, my guess is that my IQ dropped at least 100 points. What a dud flick. It was so predictable that I found myself mouthing the lines, even though this is the first time I've seen it. But what the heck. Bruce is always fun to watch.

The villain played his part with gusto but when he comes out from the sea with his zapper on, you know hoe lame hokey ot all is.

Its that man again!!

reply

jrcorb "IQ" has nothing to do with liking a movie you idiot jack ass. Who gave birth to you..... a tree monkey? SMH

reply

I enjoyed it, all except for finding my eyes riveted on SJP's nose every time she appeared on screen, because it looked to be different from what I am used to.

I'm watching this for the first time and it's not horrible. Obviously it's good enough for me to keep watching. I love the cast. The story is far fetched. But for a lazy Sunday afternoon, I'm happy!

reply

wat duz IQ stand 4?

(sent from a half-witted, dunderhead's mobile device)

reply

It is not as thrilling as some claim, but it's not as bad as many claim here as well. It's one of those mid 90's "Last Boy scout-Style" meant action movies, that was made for it's time. It's not timeless as other classics.

But when it's broadcasted, I watch it.

I give it 6 out of 10.

reply

It's not that I hated the film so much as it is I loathed the last fifteen minutes. Movies of this genre can take two paths: tell the audience who the killer is right away, and leave it a mystery only for the protagonist, or keep the viewer guessing along with the hero. "Striking Distance" takes the latter approach, which is just fine, but it drags the case out so relentlessly, creates such build-up, that it's left with no choice but to disappoint. Honestly, the very idea of Jimmy's not dying by falling into the water is so "obvious" that a smarter move would have been to reveal he actually did perish, and to challenge the audience to accept a "non-shocking" revelation. Add to that, the execution, itself, of the climax is painfully drawn-out, and Jimmy's performance is utterly unwatchable.

The movie isn't a terrible way to spend a Sunday afternoon, as you happen to stop flipping channels on TBS SuperStation, but it's nothing even marginally memorable. To the people who say, "Not everything has to be 'The Godfather,'" yes, you're completely right, but, then, something mediocre doesn't deserve praise, either.

reply

I don't hate it. Actually, I love it. It's one of my guilty pleasures. Anytime it pops up on television, I make time to watch it. I need to pick up the DVD.

I thought it was a really good movie. I'm not a huge Bruce Willis fan, but I caught this on TV one afternoon and, since I had nothing to do, I watched it. I just watched it on TV again this morning and it was still pretty good, even though I knew how it was going to turn out.
