Why does she not notice him at the airport in Seattle?

Had she not already seen the photo of him before she travelled out there? And if not, why would she get a detective to take photos of him, and then NOT wait until she sees them before travelling to Seattle? She is literally a couple of metres away from him when she comes through Arrivals, and he's staring at her like some weirdo, but she looks right through him? I get that she would not expect to see him at the airport, but how did she not notice him?

You answered your own question. She was not expecting to see him, or any she knew at the airport in Seattle. When I get off a plane somewhere, especially if I have never been there before, I'm not looking at anyone's face. I am looking for the baggage claim sign, or, if I am honest, the restroom sign. The REAL Tom Hanks and/or Meg Ryan could be standing there I would not notice them.

I agree krazy. I travel often by air and I never look for familiar faces when I get off planes. As you said, I'm looking for baggage and restrooms. It did not seem odd that she'd not notice a guy she's only seen a few times in photos.

But of course, I am being aggressively naive.

Why would she have any reason to think that Sam would be at the airport... and at the exact same gate she was at??

reply

I thought the same thing at first but then explained it the same way these others did. You don't look for faces if your not looking for someone to meet you. But what I thought didn't make sense was Annie thinking that stupid letter was writing by Sam. Come on. She heard him speak on the radio and he was obviously an articulate, intelligent adult. It really didn't occur to her that, " you sound neat"might have been written by the kid?

reply

I don't think she saw him.

Been a while. Wasn't she looking in opposite direction and when she turned he had already moved out of her line of vision?
