Ok, so after hearing Montana's comments about this movie, it has really made me hate this movie. But I don't blame Joe, I blame the media and Hollywood. Joe makes a good point: Rudy wasn't the only person on the team to work hard, every player worked hard or Ara would have booted them. What makes Rudy so special that he has a movie about him? Also, Joe pointed out so many flaws about the movie. The end of movie used to bring tears to my eyes but now that I know that everyone wasn't cheering his name and that they carried him off as more of a joke, It really bothers me. Even though I don't blame Joe Montana, I do question his motives as he has many more laurels to rest on than just his time at Notre Dame. But I guess it bothers him that Rudy was nothing special but he stills get a lot of attention like presidential recognition from George Bush. It is above me to question the best quarterback ever. Does anyone else have these feelings toward the movie now?

Remember pretty much all QBs are prima donnas. If anything takes away attention from them it, it bothers them. I would be surprised if the whole team thought it was a joke that they carried him off the field. It was a moment that Montana wasn't in the spotlight so he has to down play it.

IT'S A MOVIE!!!!
Why are these empty arguments still happening after a hundred, no I'm sorry, over a hundred years of Hollywood taking liberties. I still can't believe that people believe that what they see in the movies is to be taken as fact!? Have you people not heard of drama? They've been doing it since the dawn of film. That's why they're called movies, and not documentaries!

Fortune: Oh you are so full of crap. Your five foot nothin', a hundred and nothin' and hardly have a spec of athletic ability and you hung in with the best college football team in the land for two years, and you were also going to walk out of here with a degree from the University of Norte Dame in this life time you don't have to prove nothing to nobody except yourself and after what you gone through if you haven't done that by now, it aint gonna never happen, now go on back.

Basically, if you don't like the movie, then you have personal issue unrelated to it. One of the best sport movies...ever.

I still enjoy the movie. I tend not to pay attention when millionaires complain about not getting enough credit.

I don't blame Joe. I heard that Rudy rubbed ALOT of people the wrong way.

But you also have to remember: Joe was a 3rd string FRESHMAN QB. Rudy had been on the team for a year before Joe arrived, so all the upper classmen knew that Rudy was busting his butt the entire time (even without a speck of athletic ability), and they respected him for that. Joe comes in as a freshman and doesn't have that rapport developed with him. If I was him, I'd probably think the same thing: "I'm a scholarship player... why is everybody going on about this Rudy guy?"

I think Joe Montana's comments are clearly a reflection of his own insecurities. What was his point in saying all of that. It only made him look bad. The point of the movie was that even though everyone else was busting there asses off, Rudy had a dream to do something that he wasn't necessarily cut out for. He was driven no matter the obstacles and in the end made his dream come true. The movie was about dreams and overcoming obstacles. I doubt given Joe's natural athleticism he had very many obstacles to overcome athletically. Rudy on the other hand, is an inspiration to many. I think anyone who doesn't get the point of the movie has never struggled to get something worth keeping or experiencing.

Sounds like Joe busted your bubble by making truthful comments. Rudy was a fraud, the film is a fraud. If you think it's entertaining, fine, but Rudy was a fake and a fraud. What Joe said was right and he has earned the right to say whatever he wants. GOAT QB in my opinion. Played in a much stronger era than Brady and there are rumors of cheating surrounding those Super Bowl winning Patriots teams. Joe is the greatest.

The (obvious) difference is that Rudy didn't have the size, talent, or athleticism as any of the other players. He relied on hard work and desire alone. Remember that we're talking about the era where Notre Dame was 'the' place for college football. It recruited the very best from all over the country.

Don't listen to the haters, fiend081. You are absolutely correct in your assessment of the film. You can read more about this film at Cracked, but it basically boils down to "Rudy" being a self-promoting whore who shopped this movie around for years until someone actually made it. I agree with Joe and you. I liked it too until I learned more about it. The rest of these apologists posting, "It's just a movie!" can just suck eggs. If it's "based on a true story" then at least can the tone of the story.

2 scenes in the film bother me. The Rudy chant which was preposterous and untrue and when the star players came to the coaches office to offer to not play so Rudy can. That is asinine!

The rest of the film is fine.

More significant to me is what Rudy the man has done since the film like the bogus and illegal stock scheme related to his barely existent sports drink. That stole millions from naive stupid people.

Hard to be inspired by a film that is about a guy who is a liar and a crook.

I always knew it wasn't totally true so no, my feelings have not changed. It can be fun to really get absorbed by these "based on the true story" movies but you still must realize that it's a movie that people must pump up for entertainment value. They range from "based on the true story" to "inspired by the story" to "based loosely on a true story" to "inspired by incidents similar to the true story" and so on. I'd say that this movie was based very loosely on the story. Much of the content designed to make us sympathsize with the lad was made up, but he did exist, go to the school, etc. so the movie was not total fantasy. I don't think it's the worst "true" movie ever. There have been countless others that take a past event and turn it into complete bs.
