Why doesn't the cat just talk so the adults believe them?

I realize this is a stupid kids' movie, but crap like that is irritating and stupid no matter what it is. Thora Birch actually goes to her mom and says "This cat can talk" among other things, and her mom (in classic movie-mom fashion) is all, "Ha ha you're drunk on candy." SO WHY DOESN'T THE CAT JUST TALK AND PROVE IT.

It's ridiculous to have a device like that and then pretend it's not there as a device. So ridiculous.

And Max is so gross, I wanna punch him in his stupid face.

Whether they find life there or not, I think Jupiter should be considered an enemy planet.

We only ever see him talk to Children. Maybe he cannot be heard by adults, which would explain both why he did not spoke before nor during the party scene.

Adults are dumb in these kind of movies. If the parents seen a talking cat they would assume it was some type of toy or Halloween trick.

Although it is also possible he could only talk to children as part of the spell. This would prevent him from getting adults to help him. It is a curse after all.

I think being able to talk only to children is the most likely possibility since that would also explain why he couldn't tell his father who he was.

Well, I only assumed it was because he could only talk to kids. It could be a case of bad editing though. There were a few scenes that were shown in the trailers that were not in the film, and perhaps the explanation of WHY he could not talk to adults was left out.

I think he discovered his ability to talk many years after the hanging, which is why he could not talk to his parents. After 300 years, he may have figured it out, but why he could not in present day is a mystery.

In stories that have them bring the cat to the parents (or whatever) the cat just refuses to talk. So should they show all that or just assume we already know it.
