The Irish people I've met who are actually from Ireland have been chill and polite, Irish-Americans I've found generally to be obnoxious assholes.

Well, they didn't get the best greeting to America. Insults and bricks were hurled at them. Indentured servitude galore. Subhuman social status. etc...

Yeah, but they were used to it and expected it.
Many Irish expected "the new world" to be different until they got off the boat.
