This movie is not good

I enjoy the first two films alot but this one kinda sucks. Evil Dead set the dark ages should've been badass, but apparently not. This movie is WAY too silly with little to no story. You'd think it was made for little kids; I'd very easily show this to my children, they'd be the only ones who might enjoy how corny it is. The slapstick and comedic timing is really weak, especially in the graveyard. Everything from the windmill scene until the climax is a total waste of time. The "London Bridges falling down" is one of the most embarrassing things I've seen in a while. I fucking love Raimi but I have a very hard time understanding how they could've watched the dailies on that one and said "wow, now THAT's funny!"

The best (and probably only great) scene in the film is the climactic battle. I'll admit the climax is pretty badass. But every scene before the last 15 minutes is like a spoof. I didn't grow up with it but how does this have such a devout and obsessive cult following??? It's a start drop off in creative intrigue from Evil Dead 2, and movies like Tremors handle the campy horror/comedy so much better. This isn't even horror, and the comedy is bad.

I'm not the biggest fan of the series in general, but I can at least appreciate and respect the first two films. This one though... I agree with you--it's simply not good. I wanted to like it because, as you said, the idea sounds very cool. But it just doesn't work for me.

The movie poster, however, is fucking epic.

I agree that it is too over the top with the silliness. It was too much like the 3 Stooges which I know Sam Raimi is a fan of. I would have preferred if it kept the tone of Evil Dead 2 which was a nice blend of horror and dark humor. Army Of Darkness was the most mainstream of the trilogy.

Of course you realize that this movie is a send up to The Three Stooges?
