wow, Sidney really took advantage of Billy at the end...

I know Sidney was having money troubles but he really took advantage of Billy's weak spot: his gambling addiction. He was just standing there while Gloria was breaking up with Billy and he didn't even offer to look for another solution.

Worst part is, after the match in the hotel, he says "listen to the woman". How's that for rubbing it in.

Yeah, I always thought his character was a D-bag.

She said, "Billy if you gamble with my money, we are through." She gave him an ultimatum and he didn't take it. He chose to go play ball and gamble.

I always heard that you should never give into an ultimatum. You lose the ability to make your own decisions if you just give into ultimatums all the time.

The way this movie ended made me wonder if Sidney was in on the mob brothers finding Billy at the hotel. It seemed too convenient that Sidney disappeared right when they showed up. Did anybody else consider this as a possibility?

It's LA dude watta expect brotherly love.

If Sidney woulda just told Gloria his situation and that he got her on the show I believe she woulda agreed and all 3 of them would have been better off.

But when Billy TRIED listening to Gloria, he thought she wanted a glass of water. Instead, she wanted billy to empathize with her thirst instead. Gloria was a woman of baggage. Billy was weak. Billy needed a strong woman and Gloria needed a strong man.

Gloria wanted to change ol' Billy. She was a good-hearted woman who wasted time and even safety on a guy who was too headstrong to see what he had. In fact, the best thing he ever did for her was get her on Jeopardy. That was his trump card and the fact that he didn't take advantage of it says a lot. He could've bought himself more time with her that way. It's sad because women like her really do love men like him.
