No where near as bad as I was expecting.

This is the case with other "so bad it's good", under 4.0 rated films I've seen. Such a Piranha II, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation, Howling II and so on.

Going into a film like this you assume it's going to aim for the moon only to crash and burn. To be unintentionally hilarious...but this film was quite clearly intentional. The same applied to TCM: The Next Generation which was wholly aiming for comedy and executed it very well.

Troll 2 at it's core it's clearly an entry level Horror film FOR CHILDREN. The protagonist is a young boy whom has a loving relationship with his now deceased Grandfather and he's the sole person who can save his family from these mythical evil creatures who gobble people up. Childrens fantasy 101. Nothing wrong here.

The acting of the Goblin Queen is clearly hammy, cheesey, camp...it's borderline moustache twirling villain, like a Power Rangers baddy. This is because it's a children's film. Childrens content always has less intimidating villains whom are caricatures. It's like a pantomine stage play. Exaggerated morals. Here's the baddy, boo! Here's grandpa, yay!

It has some clear intentional humor, the Goblin Queen with her corncob heating up into a mountain of popcorn? The kid pissing on his parents food (kids would find that hilarious by the way)?

The food related content. The vegetarian food to make the humans tasty before eating them is like Hansel and Gretel. The child staves off evil by eating a meaty sandwhich!

The horror is even aimed at children, the ending is brutal for a child. Lmao. What's worse than watching your Mom get ate by goblins?

What is so horrible about the film? The goblin outfits? Sure it's a lowbudget childrens Horror film, that aspect is weak. The acting? Sure it's a LOWBUDGET CHILDRENS HORROR FILM.

Part of the problem was the language barrier between Claudio Fragasso, who is Italian, and the nonprofessional actors he found for the film in Utah. His wife Rosella wrote the script and when the actors were told their lines, no one stopped them to say most of this is not making sense. All the new American actors just went with it regardless of how it sounded.

I met him and his wife a few years back and they were both a lot of fun to talk with. Although still rough, I have to assume their English then was much improved from 1990. 😀

There can be no Troll 3 without Claudio Fragasso!
