The ending (Spoilers)

The ending where James Earl Jones comes in and is about to get the black box and all the other characters ask him to get them something is hilarious. Especially the way he barks at them and screams when the Dan Ackroyd asks for a "winnebago". That and when the Straitharn requests 'Good will and peace to all men' to which JEJ replies We're the United States Government! We don't do that sort of thing!

Life is the *beep* that happens while you're waiting for moments that never come.

To be honest, as much as I love this movie I thought the ending was cheesy and unrealistic. The US government would just take the box, not negotiate with winnebagos and such. They would just say "sure whatever you want" then lock the guys up in Guantanemo Bay.

This movie is not really about being realistic....

AND, maybe the US government was worried that even from guantanamo they d leak the truth to the media.....?

Abbott was part of the True NSA... seeing as their image had just been used by Cosmo's people... Mostly on Bishop et al, but who knows what other red flags were raised in the NSA's name by the events of the film, and the background events surrounding them

perhaps he'd been authorized for quiet and Legal... a midnight trip to Gitmo may sound easy... but who knows how many variables might come into play when transporting a group of Geniuses with a history of breaking and entering...

also it's under the table to allow them to use the box on the Other Alphabet Soups... pretty sure any Gitmo intake process ends up in a file that they can read... kind of hard to explain them without explaining the case that got them arrested.

So if a movie is unrealistic you can't enjoy it? What's with you guys and your "every movie has to be 100% realistic" or else I'll going online and complain about it?

reply

A film needs to have an internal logic, or 'realism'.

I liked Sneakers but the ending was trash and not in keeping with the rest of the film's tone.

reply

well , we'd have to assume they had some kind of leverage , and that a whole bunch of guilty secrets would come out if the FBI didnt play nice.

reply

I totally agree. I love this movie so much. But that ending is just so cheesy. But even worse, as you said - it doesn't keep with the rest of the film's tone. The movie was built upon a realistic tone and to just have everything wrapped up in a nice package via a convenient 5 minute James Earl Jones scene just feels so lazy.
