NETHERWORLD is one of the better Full Moon movies
There was a time when FULL MOON was at the top of its game, predominantly between 1986 and 1992. Charles Band was imaginative and innovative, one of those auteurs who mastered the art of filming visual and exciting horor, science fiction and eclectic sci-fi/horror movies on a economical budget, in the path of all-time great B horror master, Roger Corman.
If you enjoyed horror movies that were different, slower-paced, methodical, and relyed on mystery, plot, surprise and far less on gore and splatter, then NETHERWORLD was one of the best. It's an occult supernatural tale based on preumably old Cajun voodoo-like black magic and necromancy down in the deep bayous of Louisiana on a capacious outback plantation. A young man, estranged from his father, is called back to the plantation upon the death of father, not just to inherit the property, but to carry out the dead father's dark occult plan for resurrection.
I consider Charles Band's lower tech, less special effects, more visual and story-telling and minimal gore and splatter, to be superior to the snuff films of today like SAW and HOSTEL. That's not to say there was no violence and blood in this movie and other Full Moon films, but less is more and the movie did not revolve around it.
