The sentencing scene was such BS.

We see Red and Shorty wearing the same exact clothes as when they got arrested and Red's hair's a mess like he just washed off that lye that he had on there the same day implying that they were arrested, tried, convicted, and sentenced the same day. The uneven pacing of the film is it's weakest point IMO. Scenes that seem to go on way too long (such as the swinging dance scene earlier in the film) and then you have a hurried narration such as the arrested/trial/conviction I mentioned which probably should have included a few extra scenes implicating some time progression. A great film that could use some editing and polishing.

Spike Lee was not trying to make anyone think everything happened all in the same day. Any person with good sense knows better. Films only have but so much time. If every single detail was included, it would be 5 or 6 hours long if not more. A movie can only film what its time allotment and budget will allow therefore some scenes are condensed.

Some aspects are a bit stylized. You just have to roll with it.

What surprised me is that when they came out of prison they were all so well dressed.

you're an idiot if you think films have to follow a realistic timeline.
