Pedophile Priest

How come no one ever talks about the pedophile priest?

reply

He's a pedophile?

I never saw him that way. He beat Jobe but I don't think there were any sexual references.

reply

When he's about to be killed by Jobe, the priest admits to being guilty of molestation.

reply

Hmm... I'll have to watch it again and listen out for that.

reply

Plus, the way he touches Jobe, before he hits him. It's rather weird.

reply

That's what I thought. He caresses Jobe's neck in a far-too-familiar manner. It gave me the creeps.

reply

it makes one think though... Stephen King wanted to be separated from this story so much. but if you look at the story with it's characters, the creepy preist, the bully, the bitchy wife, the abusive dad... it feels like something Stephen King would do

reply

That's true. King has his targets and religion is one of them. The gallery of unsympathetic victims recalls most of his novels from 'Carrie' to 'Christine' to 'Needful Things'. That said, this film was awful and I don't blame King for not wanting to be associated with it, although that doesn't explain why he's happy to make trash like 'Maximum Overdrive'.

reply

"it's doesn't explain why he's happy to make trash like 'Maximum Overdrive'."

Cocaine! Lots and lots of Cocaine!...

you may take that as a joke if you want, but King really was coked out of his gourd for the making of that movie

I agree with adamjoshjay. I don't think the priest sexually molested Jobe but took pleasure in beating him i.e. the priest's a sadist. Which is a pretty typical portrayal of catholic priests and nuns(of the old school, beat-the-devil-out-of-the-child-with-a-ruler type) in movies...even in comedies, such as Sister Mary Stigmata from "The Blues Brothers". Every once in awhile you'll get a 'good' portrayal such as Father Flanagan in "Boys Town".

I too got the impression that the abuse went beyond corporal punishment. Granted he made Jobe take his shirt off to whip him on the back, but the idea of being partially nude with a priest, in addition to a creepy look the priest gives him just before he starts whipping, made me think there was more going on. Then again, my views could simply be colored by the recent atrocities committed by several Catholic priests. I can't remember if it had become such a major issue by the early 90s.

reply

I just watched it and you can hear the priest admitting his molestation of Jobe as Jobe sets him on fire.

reply

I think you don't know what a pedophile is...

The validity of my answers is highly dependent on the intelligence of the question..or lack thereof.

reply

The truth is: The Catholic Church, both those who run it and those who support it, know what priests have been doing for a thousand-plus years. Hell has plenty of room for all of them.

reply

The celibacy of the priests didnt work out that well. The level of molestation is far, far lower in the denominations of catholicism that allow priests to have families.

reply

Yeah, my question to priests would be: Are you God? Are you Christ? Then, stop trying to be that, because you aren't up to it.

reply

The primary reason for celibacy is to make priests belong to the church and not a family. As in they would pur church first if they had no family to put first. This, supposedly, should have resulted in priests leading a humble life without trying to hoard riches. Like i said, didnt work out.
