Is the movie really any good (fanboys please do not comment)

I just watched Frighteners and thought it was okay (not great). I was thinking of watching this movie but just wanted to know from anyone other than a Peter Jackson fanboy ("Oh...Peter Jackson just blew a beer and bean fueled fart in my face. I imagine that's what Heaven smells like.") if the movie is actually worth watching.

I friggin hate fanboys. Judge a movie by its own merit and not whose name is behind it you pea brained *beep*

Check my most recent post titled, "Am I the only one..." right below your post on the message board. The "spoilers" I listed are only minor. If you can overlook those flaws, you'd probably enjoy it.

The acting, music, and overall camera work are really bad. But the gore is fantastic and well worth sitting through the rest of it.

I'm not really a Peter Jackson fan at all (aside from some of his early work) but this movie is simply awesome and a must see for any fan of excessive gore and laughs.

It is trash. The scenery, the sound and the acting is ridiculously bad, the violence is completely over the top and the story is so absurd and preposterous in every little detail how no sane mind would ever expect it.

short: It is awesome.

I agree that the sound and acting is horrible, but that is the only way I'd want it in this movie. The over the top violence, absurdity, and lack of sanity is awesome and the bad acting is complementary to these aspects.

It's entertaining

I love the music and the acting(which i don't feel is bad by any means, Paquita is a little stiff but outside of that the performances are either decent or downright perfect(the mom, uncle, priest, and paquitas jock bf are all fantastic and pitch perfect). I even dig some of the cheap effects like the plane and the rat monkey. I always felt the cheaper aspects and the music added a definite charm to the flick.

Anyways, if you love HILARIOUSLY over the top gore, absurd slapstick comedy, gross out comedy, and/or zombies, you'll love Dead Alive. If you're some uppity loser who can't appreciate a lower budget flick, especially one that's shameless in some of its cheaper aspects, then go ahead nad miss out on what is without a doubt one of the most entertaining movies ever made.

Don't you mean "if you liked Evil Dead 2"? The original Evil Dead was straight horror.

Just saw this, was expecting a zombie movie.

If you go in with low expectations, you might find this ok. Few interesting concepts. And other then one part of the movie, I found the special effects good for 1992.

I'm not a Peter Jackson fanboy. I enjoy his films but I had issues with a lot of what he does, especially recently. (Such as the revolting 48fps he's trying to force down our throats with The Hobbit trilogy, even though it looks ugly and makes the image look cheap and artificial.)

That being said, I would rank this film highly and recommend it as a really good example of purposely campy, silly, over-the-top horror-comedy. I'd put it on par with Evil Dead II, Shaun of the Dead and Cabin in the Woods as one of my favorite horror-comedies. But it definitely is not a film for anyone.

I'd say give it a shot. If you can rent or stream it, seeing it once wouldn't hurt.

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

reply

No, it's not very good.
