Michael Douglas straight up rapes someone??

This is very common. As a woman when you are raped by someone you love or have relations with, many times you will deal with what has happened for various reasons, for example it's common you don't want to accept that you were raped. You know it, but you don't want to admit it, either to yourself or your partner/friend/etc. Many women feel ashamed by the thought of being raped, or want to protect themselves or the perpetrator.

It does not make it any less rape and does not condone what the man has done to the woman. We as a society seriously can not question these instances in such a way, I feel strongly that one of the reasons this is so common in the first place is that a man can find it questionable due to such acts being depicted as forgivable or even sexy in media. While you may have your own personal sexual preferences, they are fine, in private, however when a rape is clearly depicted as rape, we can not let our personal preferences define it.

A rape is simply an act of forced sexual intercourse. No more, no less. If a woman (or of course, man) says no, it means no. It does not matter how you think she feels, what matters is that you listen. It could mean the difference between traumatizing a human for life, or momentary gratification. A person could seem perfectly okay or even turned on, but that may not be the case, and should be presumed as so.

The reason I had typed all of this is because many men and women still seem to justify the rape of a person depending on the victim's actions, relationship, and recourse (or lack of). As humans we can not be this way, it is simply wrong. It is so painful as a victim of rape to see others discount the obvious rape of another person because of judgmental circumstances.

Sorry to bring you such a lengthy reply, and I know you are just a random user. However this scene haunted me, so I felt the need to see if it was discussed.

The funniest part about that scene that it was filmed without the actors knowledge, they were rehearsing the scene to get ready for the real filming. They filmed it and didn't tell the actors and they liked it so much they used that for the part in the movie. Not bad for a rehearsal scene, looks like they really went for it in practice. I think it got glossed over because he was being rougher then he was before with her, since they've had sex before, but if she felt she was raped why didn't she do anything about it afterward? Bring charges up against him?

I doubt this is true, because the scene was shot from three angles at least, which means that they would have had to use three cameras.

The shot from behind Beth, where you see her ass, is where one camera would have to be. The camera that is pointing at Beth's face, is where one of the other ones would had to be. But if they had both cameras running at the same time, then you would see the each of the cameras, in the opposite cameras' shots. Which we don't.

So this scene was shot from different angles at different times, in different takes. It was not a rehearsal, that was all shot at once, it couldn't have been, otherwise we would see the cameras in the opposite shots, and so would the actors.

Yes, that is rape. There's no gray area, as some of you are implying. In the context of his frustration at what Catherine said, he's taking it out on this woman. It's rape.
