Is it true ...

... that this series was originally supposed to take place before the original movie? If so, then is it known why the showrunners changed their minds?

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he wasn't a great big pansy.

reply

Im not sure about that but I think originaly the series was going to have Adrian Paul play Connor but it was then decided that Adrian would play Duncan a fellow clan member of Connor's.

It's treason then! (Palpatine - Stars Wars ROTS)

reply

never heard that before.

the series was to take place after the events of the first film. with Adrian Paul cast as Connor MacLeod. later Adrian insisted the character's named be changed in order to create a new character specifically for the show. thats what led to Lambert willing to star in and ease the transition.

reply

Not sure of who said what when... But the version I'd heard was simply that 'Connor' was supposed to be the Featured character (this is why they ran an antique shop in season 1 like the first film) not sure if it was supposed to be pre-film, with the Film's Time references ignored, or Post Film with the 'Prize' references retconned, even rewritten as Duncan I don't know which way they intended it as the show launched

but then they found out Lambert was willing to appear to 'pass the torch' so they turned Connor into Duncan, made him 74? years younger, and had Connor stop by as his cousin in the Pilot

reply

I dunno, but it would make more sense that way since the Gathering hasn't been completed yet in the series. In fact, they seemed to have dropped the concept of the Gathering altogether after Season 1!

reply

I don't think so, but that would have been a much better show.

This show was pretty damn awesome for the most part (although you do have to come to peace the change that Connor vs. Kurgan wasn't the final fight for the prize in the movie, but just another immortal duel)

reply

The idea in the OP's post would have been better.
